First Day of Convention!

July 14, 2011
I’m here at Convention! Yesterday was a long day getting here and even with a waylaid bag everything turned out okay. Been swapping with people every where and walking a lot. Got a chance to shop in Memento Mall this morning for some really cool things!

Leaf cardholders
Pretty shirts, I picked up the one on the right.
Almost needed one of these today!

Then I was off to get my Convention bag. This bag is gorgeous! Gotta love the embroidery in Wisteria Wonder, Pool Party and Lucky Limeade! This bag even holds my laptop!

After lunch my new friends and I were off to Riverton to visit Stampin’ Up!’s home office. And no visit to the home office would be complete without having my picture taken with the rock!

I found 2 of my cards so far on the display boards. The Truck one (top right corner of the first picture) was a submission for Artisan Award and the Flower one (2nd picture, bottom middle) was a swap I made for Hamilton Regional last September. So neat to see my own work on display for everyone to view and take photos of!

Doing the last minute packing because I'm headed to Salt Lake City, Utah tomorrow for Convention! This will be a treat for me, my first Convention! I am hoping to post pictures here on my blog or over on my Facebook page From Where I Stamp while at Convention. See you all later!

This is my 2nd favourite entry, you'll see my 1st fav later! I love the Night of Navy flowers! Onto watercolour paper the flower was embossed in white, then using a mixture of Night of Navy ink refill and Shimmer Pain in Frost White each flower was painted. It creates a sparkly blue flower. For the Crumb Cake flowers: they are embossed in white, then spritzed with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz.

Before shipping this one away I made 2 more copies, one for myself and the other for the bride and groom!

Supplies
Stamps: Fifth Avenue Floral, Curly Cute
Ink: Night of Navy, Whisper Write, Shimmer Paint Frost White, Night of Navy Classic Stampin’ Ink refill, Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz, Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Marker, Night of Navy Stampin’ Write Marker
Paper: Night of Navy Textured, Crumb Cake, Whisper Write, Watercolor paper
Accessories: Two Step Bird Punch , White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy, Brayer, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Scallop Edge Border Punch, Big Shot, Vintage Wallpaper Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Top Note Bigz die, Paint brush

My dog Hoover. This is the first of three scrapbook pages I sent in for Stampin' Up!'s Artisan Award. For this layout I pulled colours from the fall leaves in the photos for accents. The leaves were embossed in gold onto Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron and Peach Parfait card stock.

Supplies
Stamps: Autumn Splendor
Ink: Versamark, Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker
Paper: Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper, Early Espresso, So Saffron, Pear Pizzazz, Peach Parfait, Daffodil Delight, Basic Black
Accessories: Neutrals Designer Buttons, Brights Designer Buttons, Subtles Designer Buttons, Early Espresso 1/8” Taffeta Ribbon, Sticky Strip, Mini Glue Dots, Gold Stampin’ Emboss powder, Embossing Buddy, Heat Tool, Scallop Edge Border Punch, Big Shot, Timeless Type Junior Alphabet Medium Sizzlit dies, Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets

This is my last card of my non-winning Artisan Award. Stampin' Up!'s fabric is beautiful and there is even more of it in the new 2011-2012 Idea Book and Catalogue. Did you see the other fabric postcard I made a few months ago? Check it out here.

For this card I sewed two pieces (SU's the light blue and the large flower/white) together. Pressing the seams open I used the Big Shot Fabric Adhesive to adhere it to a piece of stiff interfacing. The Vanilla Satin Ribbon is adhered with the fabric adhesive as well.

For the heart I used a piece of SU's pink floral, fabric adhesive and a piece of non-SU cream fabric (cannot see it - but it's there for stability on the back of the heart). These were "glued" together and then cut out with the Big Shot. Sticky strip and Rose Red Seam Binding Ribbon finished off the card.

Just realized that I didn't take a picture of the back of the postcard. On the other side is a piece of non-SU cream fabric adhered to the stiff interfacing with fabric adhesive as well. On the top centre of the back I stamped Postcard from the Winter Post stamp set in Stazon ink.

Supplies
Stamps: Winter Post, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Stazon Jet Black Ink Pad, Baja Breeze Ink Refill
Paper: none
Accessories:  Springtime Vintage Designer Fabric, Very Vanilla 5/8” Satin Ribbon, Big Shot Fabric Adhesive Roll, Rose Red ½” Seam Binding Ribbon, Vanilla ½” Rosette, Pearls Basic Jewels, Sticky Strip, Big Shot, Hearts and Brackets Original Die, Cream Fabric, Stiff Interfacing, Rotary Trimmer, mat and ruler, Sewing Machine and Cream Thread

Card number 4 of 5 for my non-winning Artisan Award entry. Back in January I had made a card similar to this one for my father's birthday. So I entered Stampin' Up!'s Artisan Award Contest this year and didn't win. But I'm so happy that I did enter, I've never done anything like this before! The most exciting part now is getting to see all the winners entries at convention next week. Hopefully some of my creations will be on the display boards. If they are I will share them here with you! So please return to view the rest of my non-winning entries. Today is one of five cards I made:

Just remember if there are any stamps on the retiring list today is the very last day to get your hands on them!

My husband and I celebrated 10 years of marriage on June 16th! Has it really been 10 years? Has it only been 10 years? I am very blessed to have this man in my life. I love him with all my heart.
My sweetheart created the following card for me. He had the chance to cut into some of the new 2011-2012 In Colors. The colour combo was my idea, I had 2 laid out on my stamp table the night he went to design my card and he decide to choose one of them. I think he did a wonderful job! Now I need to get down there to make my own card with these colours!

Next is the card I designed for him. He loves hunting, especially for deer, so I just knew I had to use the Nature Silhouettes stamp set. The always greeting is my handwriting.

We took a little camping trip to Charleston Lake Provincial Park the weekend after our anniversary. It was perfect weather! Here we are together on the boardwalk trail.

Since I spent so much time on this next project I thought I would share with you this picture of our wedding cake replica. Yummy Gum Drop cake with vanilla frosting and violet purple flowers.

A few techniques rolled into this one! Masking and Rock 'n Roll! The thanks was masked with a piece of sticky post-it-note punched out with the Wide Oval Punch. Then the leaves were stamped over it. After stamping the mask is pulled off and ta-da complete! The leaf stamps were first inked with More Mustard but immediately rolled around on the Cherry Cobbler ink pad - this creates the Rock 'n Roll look - before stamping onto the Very Vanilla strip of card stock..

Stamps: Autumn Splendor, Thank You Kindly
Ink: More Mustard, Cherry Cobbler
Paper: More Mustard, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla

Manitoba Flood

May 23, 2011 in

Just had to make a page about the controlled breach of the Hoop and Holler dike along the Assiniboine River in Manitoba. Had we not left Manitoba just over 3 years ago we would have been dealing with this, sand bagging, worrying about our new home and a possible evacuation. So scary.

Because there were so many pictures online I decided to make up a layout using My Digital Studio. It took me about an hour because I took a little bit to decide what photos to use first. I need to go back and make more pages still. Very easy in MDS - I selected a prearranged photo layout and went from there.

Digital Supplies
Stamps: Bliss, Texture
Colours: Crumb Cake, Pear Pizzazz
Paper: Pear Pizzazz Text Designer Series Paper

Satin Ribbon Roses are so cool, although I'm not too impressed with my very first rose. Next time I think I need to have a longer piece of ribbon as my rose looks kinda plain. To get the look of the satin rose I slightly melted the ribbon with the Heat Tool. Melting the ribbon took a lot longer than I thought it would.

I just had to dive into the Creative Crew Challenge over on Splitcoaststampers for today's card. The Colour Focus for May is all Neutrals with a splash of colour. First a piece of Very Vanilla card stock was run through the Big Shot and the Vintage Wallpaper folder then sponged with Crumb Cake to accent the raised images. To finish off the card I added a piece of Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon,  my first Ribbon Rose and lastly the sentiment.

Supplies
Stamps: Thank You Kindly
Ink: Crumb Cake
Paper: Very Vanilla
Accessories: Pretty In Pink Satin Ribbon, Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon, Old Olive 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon, Vintage Brad, Wide Oval Punch, Stampin' Dimensionals, Sticky Strip, Heat Tool, Sponge, Big Shot, Vintage Wallpaper Impressions Folder

Fabric Postcard!

April 20, 2011

This card definitely looks better in real life, but I find that happens with most things made of fabric. This was going to be an Artisan Award entry, but I came up with an even better fabric postcard so this one I mailed off to my grandmother for her birthday!

My neighbour showed me her beautiful fabric postcards she had received and I just knew I had to make some! The card measures 4"x6". If you keep the card to the proper thickness for Canada Post you can add a regular stamp to it and mail it away sans envelope like a postcard!
Start with a piece of vanilla fabric stamped with the truck image from Countryside in Black Stazon ink. I had to put a lot of ink onto the stamp and then leave the stamp on the fabric for a few minutes to get the best image on the fabric.

Next I cut strips of the Springtime Vintage Fabric and sewed them in log cabin style around the truck/vanilla piece. It's very important to iron the seams open to lessen the bulk. Use a 4"x6" piece of the Big Shot Fabric Adhesive to iron together the front piece (truck with blue fabric) to the 4"x6" stabilizer (centre piece) and then another piece of the fabric adhesive to iron a 4"x6" piece of vanilla fabric to the backside of the postcard. Also cut a thin piece of the fabric adhesive to iron on a 4" piece of Victoria Crochet Lace to the front.

Finish the edges of the postcard with a zigzag stitch with a sewing machine. On the back of the postcard I stamped POSTCARD with the Winter Post stamp set, drew a line down the centre with a Sharpie marker and wrote a little note on the left side. Make sure to address your card on the right side, attach the postage stamp and send it away!

These taken a lot of time to make but they are so cool!

Supplies
Stamps: Countryside, Winter Post
Ink: Black Stazon
Paper: none
Accessories: Springtime Vintage Designer Fabric, Vanilla Fabric (not SU), Big Shot Fabric Adhesive Roll, sewing machine and thread, stabilizer for middle of postcard, Victoria Crochet Trim, Iron, rotary cutter and ruler

~ Amanda

p.s. I took the picture on the back bumper of my truck! hehe

Spring!

April 15, 2011 in ,

I love spring, especially the daffodils! My mom's birthday was last week and it was a good excuse to make a card for the April Creative Crew Challenge over on Splitcoaststampers. The challenge is to use punches and my card really needed a flower. Since I had a vase of daffodils on my desk I knew one had to pop onto this card! I used the 5 Petal Punch for the main part of the daffodil. Then cut a 3/4" strip of Daffodil Delight card stock and pleated it. A few leaves from the 2 Step Bird Punch finished off the daffodil.

Supplies
Stamps: Strength and Hope (from the upcoming Summer Mini Catalogue), Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Basic Black
Paper: Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, Vellum, Very Vanilla, Old Olive
Accessories: 5 Petal Punch, 2 Step Bird Punch, Word Window Punch, Scallop Edge Punch
