This is such a neat technique! I took the Medallion background stamp and inked it with Bashful Blue Ink. Then with my choice of either a wheel (see the card above) or a flower stamp (see card sample below) stamped onto the Medallion background stamp then stamped onto the Whisper White Card stock.

Fabric Postcard!

April 20, 2011

This card definitely looks better in real life, but I find that happens with most things made of fabric. This was going to be an Artisan Award entry, but I came up with an even better fabric postcard so this one I mailed off to my grandmother for her birthday!

My neighbour showed me her beautiful fabric postcards she had received and I just knew I had to make some! The card measures 4"x6". If you keep the card to the proper thickness for Canada Post you can add a regular stamp to it and mail it away sans envelope like a postcard!
Start with a piece of vanilla fabric stamped with the truck image from Countryside in Black Stazon ink. I had to put a lot of ink onto the stamp and then leave the stamp on the fabric for a few minutes to get the best image on the fabric.

Next I cut strips of the Springtime Vintage Fabric and sewed them in log cabin style around the truck/vanilla piece. It's very important to iron the seams open to lessen the bulk. Use a 4"x6" piece of the Big Shot Fabric Adhesive to iron together the front piece (truck with blue fabric) to the 4"x6" stabilizer (centre piece) and then another piece of the fabric adhesive to iron a 4"x6" piece of vanilla fabric to the backside of the postcard. Also cut a thin piece of the fabric adhesive to iron on a 4" piece of Victoria Crochet Lace to the front.

Finish the edges of the postcard with a zigzag stitch with a sewing machine. On the back of the postcard I stamped POSTCARD with the Winter Post stamp set, drew a line down the centre with a Sharpie marker and wrote a little note on the left side. Make sure to address your card on the right side, attach the postage stamp and send it away!

These taken a lot of time to make but they are so cool!

Supplies
Stamps: Countryside, Winter Post
Ink: Black Stazon
Paper: none
Accessories: Springtime Vintage Designer Fabric, Vanilla Fabric (not SU), Big Shot Fabric Adhesive Roll, sewing machine and thread, stabilizer for middle of postcard, Victoria Crochet Trim, Iron, rotary cutter and ruler
